Whenever someone talks about love the first thing that comes to mind is the love between a man and a woman. And though there are many other kinds of love, like between a mother and a child, the image we get in our heads that describes the world love is definitely love between opposite sexes. We see signs of this type of love everywhere, from history to culture, from books to movies, from TV shows to conversations between friends. Love has become a product of the modern society popularized and taking any possible shapes and forms. The biggest part of songs and poetry are dedicated to love between men and women. And if this seems quite good and positive, there are certain downsides to this kind of love-mania in modern society as well.
Nowadays the norms of relationships between men and have been fully revised and may seem like completely deteriorated to conservative-thinking people, especially in metropolitan areas. People meet each other, live together, split up and do not worry about things like marriage or virginity as signs of fidelity and dedication. Most rules our grandparents followed strictly today look ridiculous to us. Now it's completely individual and you can see all sorts of relationships with their exclusive set of rules (if not total lack of) to follow, and it's no wonder that such a freedom brings disappointment and spiritual damage to many people. There's a very thin line between freedom and ignorance these days, when people tend to be frivolous in their relationships, not caring about the feeling of those who are beside them in this moment of their lives.
And no wonder that depression caused by unhappy relationships and broken love has become very widespread in the modern society. People treat it like something obvious and common, but only few realize that depression is actually a disease and makes a person suffer as much (if not more) as something like heart attack or pneumonia. Today you can see many young adults taking Valium to help them overcome the consequences of yet another unfortunate relationship or bad breakup. This is the side of love you don't hear much about from the movies or novels, but many of us have face in the real world. The question is whether you need such a kind of love and freedom that plagues the world with depression or old-school norms are the virtue everyone has to follow.
